Congratulations, lovebirds! You’re engaged and planning your wedding. One of the most exciting parts of the planning process is sending out your wedding invitations. But where do you start? Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered with a fun and easy timeline for your wedding invitations.

10-12+ months before the wedding:

  • Set your wedding date and venue: This is the first step in the invitation process! Once you have a solid date and venue, you can start planning the rest.
  • Determine your guest list: This is a crucial step in determining how many invitations you’ll need to order. Take your time and think about who you absolutely want to invite.
  • Hire a stationery designer: If you want to make your invitations extra special, consider hiring a professional, namely me if you so desire! They can help you with the design, printing, and mailing process.
  • Start designing and ordering your invitations: This is the fun part! Get creative and choose a design that represents you and your partner. There are so many ways to make the wedding invitation personal to you and really bring out your personality.

9-12 months before the wedding:

  • Mail out your save the dates: Save the dates are a great way to give your guests a heads up about your big day. It’s especially important if you’re getting married during a busy time of year, if you have guests coming from out of town or are planning a destination wedding.

4-6 months before the wedding:

  • Finish up those wedding invitations!
  • Work with your stationer to put the finishing touches on your invitations. You should have had your tasting by this time so food options can be added to the RSVP cards. Locations for welcome receptions and post wedding brunches should be secured and those locations can be added to the weekend card.

2-4 months before the wedding:

  • Mail out your official wedding invitations: It’s time to give your guests all the details they need to plan to attend. Make sure to include the date, time, location, and any special instructions. If most of your guests are local and your location isn’t a touristy spot 2 months should be fine. If you have lots of out of towners or your wedding location is in a popular spot (hello, Newport, RI) it’s best to give your guests more time and mail closer to that 3-4 month mark.

1-2 months before the wedding:

  • Send out a reminder to guests who haven’t RSVP’d yet: If you’ve got a few stragglers who haven’t RSVP’d, it’s okay to send a friendly reminder.
  • Work on all those day of items! Ceremony programs, wedding menus, signature drink cards, unplugged ceremony signage, etc, the list goes on and on.
  • Finalize your seating chart/escort card and place cards: This is the final step before the big day. Make sure to double check with your wedding planner or stationer to make sure everything is in order.

1 week before the wedding:

  • Take a deep breath and relax…
  • Get excited, because the big day is almost here!

And there you have it, folks! A fun and easy timeline for your wedding invitations. Remember, the most important thing is that you and your partner have a blast planning your big day and that your guests feel loved and included. So grab a glass of champagne, relax, and get ready to have the time of your life!
